The Artist’s Way: Introduction

JC says: “What you are doing is creating pathways in your consciousness through which the creative forces can operate.”

This is also important when we practice animal communication or energy healing: We have to be a clear channel through which creative energy can flow, and the same is true for telepathic, psychic, or healing energy.

But simply telling someone they have to be a clear channel is useless information. The Artist’s Way shows us HOW to clear out the emotional and mental clutter that stand in the way of clarity. No matter what kind of clarity or focus or direction you’re hoping to find, this course will at least open the door for you.

The Artist’s Way gives us tools to remove blocks to creativity. Those same tools can also work to remove blocks to our telepathic and psychic abilities. I’d go so far as to say that in any area of life where we feel stuck or confused, The Artist’s Way can give us the nudge we need to get unstuck and gain clarity.

JC says we should spend an hour a day on this course. I don’t have time for that! I’m already stretched too thin as it is. But am I doing the things I need to do to live a full and happy life of my own choosing, or am I spending hours of my life that I’ll never get back to complete someone else’s agenda or fulfill someone else’s needs?

Is one hour out of twenty-four hours a day too much to devote to my own self-care?

    IDK. What do you think?

This book sounds like it’s exactly what I have been looking for. What I need in my life. Learning how to declutter the chatter in my head will be amazing and rewarding I am sure. I feel that I don’t always have clarity with animal communication, removing blocks using tools I haven’t tried yet will be interesting and hopeful.

You really got me thinking about helping other people’s agenda and not having time for my own.

This is my year for self care.

    I am ready

@Isabelle I know it’s exactly what I need too, so I’m so glad you’re on board! It’s not altruistic, it’s personal: I will show up for friends when I won’t show up for myself, so I need a group of likeminded people to keep me motivated. I know from experience that it’ll be transformational. Let’s do this!

No. One hour a day is NOT too much time to dedicate to some self care.

That said, The Artist’s Way says we should schedule two hours a week, I believe, just for ourselves. That task has been on my To Do list in my bullet journal since I mentioned this book in our meeting back in January!

That’s not to say that I haven’t taken some time for myself, but it hasn’t been scheduled, dedicated, planned time for ME. Since I joined this book club today, I’m going to start reading the book again. I lost my way three or four days in but this just might be the impetus I need…

Glad to be a part of this!

@Krys I can’t thank you enough for giving me the idea of doing this course in the book club. The Artist’s Way course is life-changing, but a life-changing process is so easy to abandon if we don’t have the support we need to keep going.

I think that 30-minutes a day to write three morning pages is an aspirational goal I can’t attain, because I’m constantly dealing with distractions (including those introduced by my own monkey-mind), so it usually takes me an hour to get three morning-pages done. Sometimes I break the rules and write a little bit at a time during the day. Sometimes I tell myself that my notebook is big and the lines are close-together, so I can get away with only doing two pages.

But the truth is, no matter how big the page is or how far apart the lines are, the epiphany happens at the end of two pages, and the answer comes in the third page.

Make of that what you will. I’m being told I have to stop writing this because we’re late leaving for a play we have tickets for and I’m not dressed yet. So I’ve gotta go but I’m gonna post this and maybe write more later.

Anyhow, that’s it for now. Thanks for getting us al going on this life-changing thing we’re doing together.

I ordered the workbook from Amazon. I don’t know for sure if I needed it but I think it might be helpful for me to stay organized with my notes. I started the book last week. Just got to the page 38 with my first assignment of writing 3 pages starting tomorrow morning. I like the fact that I don’t have to reread what I wrote. I am planning my Artist Dates for every Wednesdays. I feel that if I write this in my daily/weekly planner that I will be able to plan my outings and actually do them.

I am excited to know that I won’t be alone in this adventuring path.

@Isabelle I’ve bought and used the workbook before. I still have it, and I got it out to look back over it. I like the fact that the tasks and check-ins are listed, with plenty of room for writing, and unlined pages make it easy to draw or make diagrams etc. There is some explanatory text lifted from the book, and I think there is also some additional material included. It was helpful to keep me motivated and organized.

I like your idea of setting aside a regular time each week to do your Artist’s Date. Thank you for sharing it. I’m going to do that too, because while I’ve been doing morning pages (badly) for years, I deny myself the Artist Dates. Turns out that I’m much better at doing things that feel like work than I am at doing things that are fun.

Wednesdays are good for me, so I’ll choose Wednesdays too. I’ll make a new discussion thread about Artist Dates, so we can share our plans and experiences there.
